Verdict: Devils' Crest premieres on Prime Video worldwide at 11:00 a.m. JST on November 6, 2026 (9:00 p.m. ET on November 5). Episode count and release pattern aren't announced as of November 1. To read ahead, search for Demons' Crest: Yen Press has volumes 1 to 3.

Devils' Crest anime premieres on Prime Video at 11:00 a.m. Japan time on Friday, November 6, 2026, worldwide and only there. In the US that's Thursday night, November 5. It's the new series from Reki Kawahara, who wrote Sword Art Online. If you want to read ahead before it starts, the English books are sold as Demons' Crest, and as of November 1, 2026 only three of the four Japanese volumes are out in English.

Two things haven't been announced. Nobody has said how many episodes there are: MyAnimeList lists the count as "Unknown," AniList leaves it blank, and neither the official site nor Amazon's UK November list gives a number. Nobody has said whether Amazon releases one episode a week or the whole season at once, either. MyAnimeList and Wikipedia both classify it as an ONA, a series made for streaming, so there's no Japanese TV slot to go by.

Where to watch the Devils' Crest anime

The official site names Prime Video as the only place to watch it: it says 世界独占配信, a worldwide exclusive, and Amazon UK's "what to watch in November" list has Devils' Crest on November 6. As of November 1, 2026, no Crunchyroll or Netflix deal has been announced.

We tried to open the show's Prime Video page and got "Service area restriction" from our connection, so we couldn't see what the page lists for episodes. If you have Prime, the official site links to a watchlist button.

Japan had a first look planned before the stream. The official site scheduled an advance screening of episodes 1 and 2 for 3:00 p.m. on November 1 at United Cinema Aqua City Odaiba in Tokyo, ¥3,500 a seat. The notices announced Haruka Shiraishi and Konomi Inagaki for the stage, added Maaya Uchida later, and said the event wouldn't be streamed (配信はございません).

Devils' Crest or Demons' Crest?

It's the same series. The anime's English title is Devils' Crest. AniList's romanized title, and the name on every Yen Press book, is Demons' Crest, from the Japanese デモンズ・クレスト. If you search a bookstore for "Devils' Crest," you'll miss the novels.

The name confuses people for a second reason. On MyAnimeList's thread for the show, user ThePacISBack wrote on March 30, 2026: "did anyone else immediately think this was based on the old Ghost and Goblins spinoff series (on Gameboy and Super Nintendo) called Demon's Crest". The two are unrelated, and Wikipedia's article on the novels sends anyone looking for the game to a separate page. The lead's name changes too: the anime credits and Amazon spell it Yuma, the Yen Press books spell it Yuuma.

What the story is about

The official pitch puts the show in a line with Kawahara's earlier work: Sword Art Online was VR, the Ordinal Scale movie was AR, and Devils' Crest is MR, mixed reality. A class of sixth-graders are testing Actual Magic, a full-dive VRMMO-RPG, when the game fuses with the real world. Yen Press's blurb for volume 1 has Yuuma playing it with his twin sister, Sawa. Wikipedia's plot summary adds that one of his classmates, Sumika Watamaki, gets turned into a monster.

Amazon's own synopsis starts smaller: a "sudden incident" during the test session leaves Yuma "wandering alone inside a dark, abandoned building." By volume 3, Yen Press's blurb has the students of Class 6-1 at Yukihana Elementary trapped in Althea, the fused world, with a new stat called the "demonization ratio" hanging over them. If you came from Chinese web fiction, that's the game-interface idea from system novels, with the twist that the stats follow the kids out of the headset.

Yuuma is eleven in Yen Press's volume 2 blurb, and the official intro still calls the story a death game. Yen Press rates the books T (Teen).

Who's making the Devils' Crest anime

Production I.G animates and Warner Bros. Japan produces. Shinji Ushiro is chief director and Kenichiro Komaya directs, with series composition by Eiji Umehara. Yukiko Horiguchi, who illustrates the novels, adapted her own character designs. Yuki Hayashi and Naoyuki Chikatani wrote the music. Ado sings the opening, "Shinka," and Soala sings the ending, "ReaL."

Warner Bros. Japan posted the second trailer with English subtitles on October 2. As of November 1 it had 15,967 views, against 140,018 for the Japanese upload of the same trailer.

Reading ahead: the light novels in English

The story was a book from the start. Kadokawa billed it as a 完全新作, an all-new Kawahara novel, and published it straight into its Dengeki Bunko line in November 2022. If you're not sure how that differs from a web novel, our web novel vs light novel guide covers it. Yen Press publishes the English edition under Yen On, translated by James Balzer.

4覇権∽争奪 (no English edition yet)Not announced as of November 1, 2026December 10, 2025

Volume 1 is $15.00 in paperback and $8.99 as an ebook on Yen Press's site. There's also a full-color webtoon in Japanese on the HykeComic app, running since November 6, 2022.

Don't count on the books matching the show scene for scene. In her cast comment on the official site, Konomi Inagaki (Sawa) says アニメでは原作と違う展開もあり: the anime has some developments that differ from the original. Yuya Hirose (Kenji) says the cast don't know everything that comes next themselves. With no episode count, nobody outside the production knows which volume the season ends on.

Our read

Watch episode 1 first. The cast says the anime changes some events from the novels, and the English books stop at volume 3, so the books won't reliably tell you what happens on screen. If the first episode hooks you, the three English volumes add up to 728 pages. We haven't read them or seen the anime, so we can't tell you yet whether it's any good. On November 1 the show had 6,377 MyAnimeList members and an AniList popularity of 5,970. In the two MAL threads we read, the excitement is mostly about who's attached: one reply to the Ado news is just "ADOMINATION !!", and another commenter wrote in March that they were excited "since it's from the author of SAO and also produced by Production IG studio."

If the game-leaks-into-life hook is what you're after and you read Chinese web fiction, Let Me Game in Peace runs on a similar idea: a phone game that pays out real power.

How We Checked This

Checked: November 1, 2026. We opened the official anime site (its countdown script, news, cast and music pages), AniList's API record and MyAnimeList's page and forum threads, the descriptions and upload dates of the seven videos the official site links on Warner Bros. Japan's YouTube channel, Yen Press's pages for volumes 1 to 3, Dengeki Bunko's series page, Amazon UK's November 2026 Prime Video list and Wikipedia's series article. We pulled stills every five seconds from the English-subtitled second trailer; the Actual Magic frame above is one of them. Prime Video's own title page wouldn't load from our location. We checked before the November 1 screening started, so the details of that event come from the official notices. The anime isn't out yet and we haven't read the novels; nothing here describes episodes or chapters beyond what the publishers' blurbs say.
