Qidian Top Novels, Week 4: Who Held #5 in September 2026
The top four didn't move for a fourth straight capture. Fifth went to a comedy about an immortal empress who still needs to copy homework.
Verdict: Qing Wu Gaokao Shi Du Jie held 5th from our September 14 capture to the final board, and was 5th again on October 19. The completed Lao Shi Ren, 3rd mid-month, fell to 13th.
Among Qidian top novels on our September 14, 2026 capture of the Monthly Vote board, the top four were the same four novels for a fourth straight snapshot, led by Ye Wu Jiang (夜无疆). Fifth belonged to Qing Wu Gaokao Shi Du Jie (请勿高考时渡劫, roughly "Please Don't Face Your Tribulation During the Gaokao"). It kept that spot to the end of the month, Qidian awarded it 5th for September on October 1, and it's 5th again on the October board. We read its first chapter to see what's holding the spot.

Qidian Top Novels: How the Race for #5 Ended
Fifth didn't change hands. On the final September board, Qing Wu Gaokao Shi Du Jie finished 5th with 112,224 votes. Above it, the order shifted: Mei Qian climbed to 3rd, Wu Dao! (武道!), not in our captured top five, took 4th, and Lao Shi Ren fell from 3rd to 13th. A completed novel can hold attention for a while, but monthly votes reward books still updating, and by month's end it had lost that fight.

The book's own page records the result: on October 1 it "获得了男频月票榜(2026年09月)第五名", 5th on the September men's-channel board. It's holding the spot. On October 13 the page showed 52,994 votes for October at rank 5; on October 19 it showed 59,276, still rank 5, with the cushion over 6th down from 5,144 votes to 2,419. Sixth is closing in.
Correction: the first version of this article said a sixth title, Yi Shen Tong Zhi Ming (以神通之名), had closed to within a few hundred votes of 5th. That figure isn't on our capture and we couldn't re-check it, and the article got the author wrong: Qidian credits the book to Zhu Xin Xia Ren (猪心虾仁). We've removed the claim. Yi Shen Tong Zhi Ming finished September 12th.

What Qing Wu Gaokao Shi Du Jie Reads Like
Screenshot: Qidian header for 请勿高考时渡劫, October 13, 2026
The synopsis sets the tone in one list. Demons and cultivators live hidden in modern China and enjoy the conveniences: a thousand-year-old tree demon "冒充名贵古树,月月领取政府补贴" (poses as a rare old tree and collects a government subsidy every month), and a thirty-year-old cultivator caught flying on his sword hires a comment army to insist the video is AI. Meanwhile "十七岁的周游忙着拯救世界": seventeen-year-old Zhou You is busy saving the world.
Chapter 1 (3,632 characters, posted July 27, 2026, free) is a two-hander. It's the last day of summer before Zhou You's final high-school year. His deskmate Chu Xiaoyao turns up at his door announcing "我穿越了!" ("I time-traveled!"). He doesn't blink, because he's heard this before: in junior high she was an escaped superpowered lab subject, then the keeper of a world-ending black dragon. This time she spent ten thousand years in a cultivation world, rose to immortal empress, was betrayed by her disciples, and came back. Her actual request: can she copy his summer homework?
That line is the most-commented paragraph in the chapter, 415 of the chapter's 10,304 paragraph comments. Then the turn: she reads him the Tao Te Ching as a "top cultivation technique," he dozes off, and he wakes hovering a few centimeters above his bed. We liked it. The deadpan works because it shrinks the genre's biggest fantasy, the reborn immortal, down to a kid who didn't do her homework, and the gaokao gives a cultivation story a deadline most Chinese readers have lived through. Qidian listed 456,000 characters on October 19, up from 425,700 a week earlier, and the author is a Yuewen platinum writer.
Why Chapter Titles Beg for Votes
Look at the latest-update links on the final September board and you see the mechanics. Wu Dao!'s newest chapter carried the tag "(10万月票加更2/5)": the second of five bonus chapters promised for reaching 100,000 votes. 1984: Cong Chuancaiguan Kaishi (1984:从川菜馆开始), 6th, posted on October 7 with "双倍月票最后一天,求月票!": last day of double votes, please vote. Authors ask in public, and readers answer with paid tickets.
On r/noveltranslations, goodmore233, who writes that they were an editor at one of China's top web novel platforms before joining Wuxiaworld, sums the board up as "Monthly ticket ranking. Reflects support from paying users." Then the caveat: "authors can manipulate rankings, or organize their readers to do so."
Our Take
Read the Monthly Vote board as a measure of paying fans who are still active, not of quality, and read the month-end board over any mid-month snapshot. Our September 14 capture had a finished novel in 3rd; the final board had it in 13th. The one title that held its spot all month is also the one we'd point a curious reader to: Qing Wu Gaokao Shi Du Jie is funny from its first page. There's no official English edition we know of, so for now it's a Chinese-only read.
How We Checked This
On October 13, 2026 we read chapter 1 of 请勿高考时渡劫 on Qidian (free, logged out) and its book page, and reopened the book page on October 19 for the October rank. The mid-month figures come from our own screenshot of the Qidian board (update stamps September 14); Qidian draws vote numbers in a scrambled font, so we read them off the image. The final September ranks come from our October 8 capture of the September board, and the forum quotes from the Reddit thread above: 5 pages and captures in all. We removed the unverifiable 6th-place gap, and the FAQ, TL;DR and Key Takeaways.
