Matrilocal Marriage Novel: Seven Seas Licenses Ruzhui

The matrilocal marriage novel Ruzhui is now licensed by Seven Seas, so Qing Jun Mo Xiao's baihe time-travel romance has an English print date at last. The wait is the catch. The original finished on JJWXC years ago, and the first English volume is still more than ten months away.

Matrilocal Marriage Novel: What Seven Seas Announced

The book was one of fifteen licenses Seven Seas revealed at Anime Expo 2026. The publisher pitches it as “A slow burn baihe/Chinese Girls' Love romance about a time-traveling woman who lost everything and the mysterious heiress she comes to marry out of convenience.” It'll come out “in single large-trim editions as part of the Seven Seas Baihe label,” with ebooks as well, and the announcement names the author's earlier books: Clear and Muddy Loss of Love, Female General and Eldest Princess and My Wandering Spirit Lady, which Seven Seas licensed in the same wave.

Only volume one is listed so far, and Seven Seas hasn't said how many there will be.

The Setup

Yun An has it all until she finds out her girlfriend is cheating on her with her best friend. Heartbroken, she volunteers for time-travel research, gets picked from 200,000 volunteers, and lands somewhere that “has never been recorded in history.” Broke and hungry, she crashes a banquet thrown by the Lin family of Longdong, who have ruled for three generations, and the free meal ends with her betrothed to the family's heiress, Lin Buxian.

The Chinese blurb fills in what the English one skips. Yun An was sent to record the real story of the Chenqiao mutiny (陈桥兵变), and instead lands in a dynasty called Yan (燕) whose institutions resemble the mid-Ming. At her twentieth birthday banquet, Lin Buxian announces that the Lin house is looking for a son-in-law to marry into the family: 入赘, ruzhui, the matrilocal marriage of the English title. What Readers Say

Readers who have finished it mostly sell it on tone. In a September r/baihe thread asking whether it's worth the length, u/AffectionateGoat7453 called it “much more light hearted and silly” than the author's heavier books, and u/2100 said it “feels like pretty light reading despite the length.” The complaints are about the back end: u/Mawaw, who still says it's worth it, admits “im really not a fan of the ending either and also the sci-fi aspect of it.” We'd take the ending warning seriously for a book this long.

The Matrilocal Marriage Novel Is Finished in Chinese

We checked the JJWXC record directly. An earlier version of this article took its completion year from an index and got it wrong. JJWXC files the book as an original baihe alternate-history romance, signed and complete, at 1,061,707 characters. The main story ends at chapter 297, posted on August 9, 2021, and four extras followed, the last on August 18, 2021.

So nothing about the matrilocal marriage novel is still being written. What's open is how Seven Seas splits a million-character novel into print volumes and how fast they come.
