My Wandering Spirit Lady: Seven Seas' New Baihe Novel

A finished, one-season ghost romance from an author whose last English deal fell apart. This one has a real publisher and a long wait.

Verdict: My Wandering Spirit Lady is a short, complete baihe ghost romance, and Seven Seas lists Vol. 1 for October 26, 2027. Worth a preorder if you want Qing Jun Mo Xiao in print; nothing to buy before then.

Seven Seas has licensed My Wandering Spirit Lady, a baihe ghost romance by Qing Jun Mo Xiao, for its Seven Seas Baihe line. Volume one is listed for October 26, 2027 at $19.99. It's a good pick for an English debut: a short book, long finished in Chinese, from an author whose earlier English deal never reached print.

Seven Seas' setup is short: Su Momo wakes up in hospital with no memory of who she is and a female ghost at her side, and somehow her heart remembers the ghost. The publisher calls it "a beautiful and touching romance about how love can outlast even death." On JJWXC the author's own summary adds two things English buyers will want to know: it's a sister book to her earlier 我的死神室友 (roughly, My Death God Roommate) but stands alone, and the ending is happy.

Chapter One of My Wandering Spirit Lady

We read the free first chapter in Chinese on JJWXC on October 15. It's a horror setup played for comedy, and it works. Su Momo comes to after ten days unconscious, her mother in tears and a doctor telling her parents it may be selective memory loss. Then she notices a girl in jeans, with a ponytail and scuffed canvas shoes, sitting cross-legged on the spare bed. Nobody else sees her.

The best beat is small. The ghost leans over and tells Su Momo the nurse isn't going on rounds, she's going to eat the braised chicken rice that just got delivered. Su Momo, terrified, actually asks: "Are you going to eat braised chicken rice?" The nurse spins round, stares at her for a few seconds, and leaves without a word. The chapter ends with Su Momo under the blanket, sobbing, promising to burn paper money for the ghost tomorrow if she'll just go away.

One chapter is not a review, and the romance hasn't started yet. But the voice is light and the scenes are short, which suits a book this size.

A Second Try at an English Release

The publishing history matters more than the plot here. DanmeiNews notes that this book and Matrilocal Marriage will be Qing Jun Mo Xiao's debut in English "after the fraught production and eventual cancellation" of Monogatari Novels' attempted release of Female General and Eldest Princess and Clear and Muddy Loss of Love. Seven Seas leans on those two titles in its own blurb ("From the author of..."), even though neither has an English edition.

Readers are still pushing for them. In an r/BaiHe thread about Seven Seas' licensing survey, u/Imsad13 wrote that the author "just announced that JJWXC is in the process of getting back the rights to those two titles." That's a fan report, not a publisher statement, but it explains why My Wandering Spirit Lady matters beyond its own pages: sales here are the case for the bigger books.

How Baihe Readers Took the News

The r/BaiHe announcement thread was mostly delight. u/AkumaYoru wrote "I'm buying all 3 the moment those preorders open!" The worry came from u/airiakitty, who is "scared on how long they'll remain in circulation before they go OOP." That's a fair fear for niche print runs, and a reason to preorder rather than wait.

What Isn't Confirmed Yet

Seven Seas lists a single volume so far, with no word on how many the full novel needs, no translator credit and no final cover art. The original ends with a note pointing readers to the author's next book, 入赘, which is the Matrilocal Marriage Seven Seas licensed the same day. Check the publisher's series page before ordering, since dates this far out can still move.

The same announcement brought three more Chinese novels.

Our Take

This is a sensible first book to bring Qing Jun Mo Xiao to English: finished, compact, with a concept you can sell in one line. The first chapter is funnier than the blurb suggests. If you read Chinese, it's done and waiting on JJWXC now. If you don't, the 2027 date is a long wait for a short book, so we'd preorder it to show demand and spend the time in between on baihe already in print.

How We Checked This

We opened the Seven Seas series page and the DanmeiNews announcement on October 14, 2026, then the JJWXC book page and chapter 1 on October 15, plus two r/BaiHe threads: 6 pages in total. On October 21 the Seven Seas page still listed the same Vol. 1 date and price, and the JJWXC page hadn't changed.
