Let Me Game in Peace Review: A Lazy Genius With a 1-Up

Everyone at school thinks Zhou Wen gave up. He's actually grinding a phone game that feeds real power into his body, one drop of blood per life.

Verdict: Worth the free chapters if you liked Super Gene's eat-and-grow loop but want a calmer lead; it's complete at 1,905 chapters, and Webnovel's written reviews are hard on the hero.

1,905 chapters · Completed · Webnovel · How we score

The short Let Me Game in Peace review: it's another big hook from the Super Gene author, and a cleaner one. A high-school genius everyone thinks has given up is secretly grinding a phone game whose drops go straight into his body, and the first chapters make that loop easy to follow. The written reviews on Webnovel are hard on the hero even though the rating is high, so the free chapters are the right test.

What we read: chapters 1 to 3

We read the first three chapters on Webnovel on October 22. Chapter 1 opens on a teacher, Yu Qiubai, lecturing about the dimensional storms that brought "gods, immortals, ghosts, monsters, angels, devils, elves, etc." to Earth, while Zhou Wen sleeps in the corner. The former principal once told Yu Qiubai there were two kinds of genius: "One type of genius is called Zhou Wen, the other type is the other geniuses." Then a transfer student beat Zhou Wen in one strike, and the school decided he'd fallen apart.

He hasn't. When class ends he finds a quiet corner, opens a game called Ant Nest, and drips blood on the screen:

The ants his avatar kills drop the same crystals hunters risk their lives for in real dimensional zones, and the power lands in his real body. In chapter 2 he spells out the rule: a crystal with a higher value than his stat raises the stat straight to that value; a lower one only refills energy. When the avatar dies, "one drop of blood was a life." At the end of chapter 2 a red Vigor Ant drops a Vigor Ant Crystal, and in chapter 3 it imprints a skill, Vigor Divine Fist, into his real body.

Numbers on the Screen, Limits on the Fist

The loop is close to Super Gene's kill-and-grow idea, moved onto a phone screen with numbers attached. In the real world, chapter 1 says, crystals have no numbers and people only know they got stronger; Zhou Wen's phone shows him the values, so every drop is a small decision instead of a vague power-up.

The new skill has a price written down. The Vigor Divine Fist can blow a Vigor Ant apart, but each punch costs 4 Essence Energy out of his 9, and he recovers one point an hour: two punches and he's empty, in chapter 3.

Zhou Wen hides the phone, grinds patiently ("Since Zhou Wen was a sedate person and not quick-tempered"), and lets the school think what it wants. At the end of chapter 3 Fang Ruoxi, the school's other star before the transfer student arrived, asks him to join her team for the graduation combat test, so the quiet won't last.

Where Readers Push Back

Zhou Wen himself splits readers. Webnovel reviewer WN_Enthusiast quit at chapter 87, angry that the lead puts up with his step-family-to-be and noting "MC hasn't even stepped up one realm." Reviewer exceed12 called the side characters "one dimensional." If you need a hero who pushes back early, that's the warning.

Then there's Super Gene. Reviewer berxeq wrote it off before starting, saying Super Gene was a "total waste" of time and skipped this one. Others say it's the better book. On r/noveltranslations, u/mbahsur0 told a reader to skip Super Gene because Let Me Game in Peace, by the same author, is "much much better than Super Gene," and u/Valcua wrote that it "is great too."

Only chapters 1 to 43 are free on Webnovel; from chapter 44 it's coins or Fast Pass, and the full run is close to two thousand chapters.

Let Me Game in Peace Review: Who Should Read It

Read it if you liked the counting in Super Gene or the cheat-as-hook setup in Library of Heaven's Path, and you want a modern Earth setting. It also fits readers who enjoy game-style stat windows; our system novel explainer covers where that trope comes from.

Skip it if you want a lead who confronts people from page one, or if Super Gene's long grind already wore you out. Our take: the opening is a clean, well-limited power system, and the free chapters are enough to know whether Zhou Wen's patience reads as calm or as passive to you.

How we checked this

For this Let Me Game in Peace review, on October 22, 2026 we read chapters 1 to 3 on Webnovel, went through the novel page and its reader reviews, and checked the full table of contents for locked chapters. We also read two r/noveltranslations threads where readers compare it with Super Gene. We haven't read past chapter 3, so everything about the later story comes from the readers quoted, and most of those reviews are several years old.
