Erha Manga Cancelled: What Happened and What You Can Read

Libre pulled the plug on the Japanese Erha comic within days of naming its artist. The Seven Seas novels in English aren't touched.

Verdict: The Erha manga is dead, with no restart announced by October 20. If you want the story in English, the complete Seven Seas novel edition is unaffected.

The Erha manga adaptation is over before a first chapter reached its announced print date. On August 19, 2026 the Japanese publisher, Libre, posted a notice on the manga's official X account saying the comic project had been called off. The same day, the IP holder, Qianhe Xingyao Cultural Creative, said it was ending all cooperation with artist Ayano Yamane after backlash over her older social-media posts. This Erha cancellation news concerns that proposed Japanese comic only. As of October 20, 2026 nothing official says it will restart with another artist: the comic's X account still holds just one post, the cancellation notice. If you came looking for the Chinese comic on Kuaikan, that's a separate adaptation with its own story: is the Erha manhua finished.

What Happened to the Erha Manga Adaptation

K Comics Beat reported that the team behind the Erha manga adaptation "was only announced on August 16th, 2026." An early preview "was set to drop on August 28th before its full chapter release in print on October 28th", with serialization planned to start in December. The outlet named Nanao Takaoka as the person "in charge of storyboards".

The same day, K Comics Beat carried a statement credited to the "Qianhe Xingyao Overseas Affairs Group". The company had "immediately launched a comprehensive investigation" and was "terminating all cooperation with the manga artist involved", "demanding compensation, and permanently blacklisting them."

The publisher's own notice settles the question of whether the comic survives. Libre's statement, posted by the official account @2hacomic, apologises for the concern caused by the artist's past social-media posts and says that, after discussions with the parties involved, the project has been dissolved. It is dated August 19, 2026 and signed 株式会社リブレ (Libre Inc.).

Brazilian BL outlet Blyme carried the same cancellation with a slightly different timeline: an announcement on the 17th, a start in October in the magazine BE BOY GOLD, and storyboards by Takaoka Nanaroku. Because the two outlets disagree on the announcement date, it is safer to say the decision came within days of the announcement than to claim a precise interval.

The Allegations, Stated Carefully

In K Comics Beat's account, fans answered the announcement with "screenshots and links to Yamane's posts stemming from 2011 to 2016", and critics described them as using "Korean and Chinese stereotypes". Some of the original posts could no longer be found, by the accusers' own account, because they may have been deleted. Yamane posted her own apology on X the same day, headed 過去のSNSでの発言に関するお詫びとお知らせ (an apology and notice about her past social-media statements).

That is sensitive and disputed territory, so the useful news fact is narrow: the publisher cancelled the comic and the rights holder publicly cut ties. Neither outlet gives a basis for a broader judgment beyond those company actions.

How Readers Reacted

The main r/DanmeiNovels thread on the cancellation, "Erha Manga Project: Terminated", ran to a couple of hundred comments, and reactions split. u/FamiliarTrivia called it "a rollercoaster of an announcement timeline". u/Longterm-Winter00 wrote, "I hope that 2ha can still be serialized in the future with a different team," while u/GeauxPanthers99 asked, "WHY not just seek a different artist rather than terminate the entire project?" Others backed the decision outright: u/real_highlight_reel called "the call out and removal of them from this project" "completely fair".

What the Erha Manga Adaptation Cancellation Does Not Change

The Erha manga adaptation was not the same thing as the official English novel release. Seven Seas lists The Husky and His White Cat Shizun: Erha He Ta De Bai Mao Shizun as an "11 Volumes" Siren series by Rou Bao Bu Chi Rou, with "a translation by Rynn & Jun". Vol. 11 came out on March 24, 2026, and the page also lists an audiobook edition.

That distinction matters for readers deciding what to buy or start. Nothing we found suggests the Seven Seas books were withdrawn, delayed, or altered because of the Japanese manga cancellation. Readers looking for the story in English can still use the publisher's Erha series page, while readers wanting context on the format can start with our danmei beginner's guide.

For a franchise with several formats, the original novel, the licensed English prose edition and a proposed Japanese manga are separate products with separate teams. A cancelled adaptation is a real loss for readers who wanted that version, but it is not a notice that Erha has vanished from English shelves. Our Take

The cancellation isn't in doubt: Libre's dated notice and the IP holder's statement say the same thing, within days of the announcement. The only open question is whether Erha ever gets a comic with a different team, and nobody official has said a word about that. English readers lose nothing they already had. If the news sent you looking for the story, the eleven Seven Seas volumes are finished, and our guide to danmei novels licensed in English shows where The Husky sits among the other complete picks.

How We Checked This

We re-opened Libre's notice, the comic's X profile, the Seven Seas series page, the K Comics Beat article and the Reddit thread on October 20, 2026, and searched again for restart news. The other three were opened on October 12: the Blyme article, Yamane's apology on X and the Penguin Random House sell sheet.
