Verdict: Season 2 premieres in January 2027; the day, TV stations and episode count weren't announced as of November 3, 2026. It starts at light novel volume 2, the Royal Knight Academy arc, and Yen Press has all eight volumes in English.

The World's Finest Assassin season 2 premieres in January 2027. As of November 3, 2026, that's all the official site commits to: no day, no TV stations, no episode count. The new season picks up where episode 12 stopped, which is the start of light novel volume 2, where Lugh enrolls at the Royal Knight Academy to get close to the Hero he was reborn to kill. You don't have to wait for January to see what happens there. Yen Press has published all eight volumes in English, so English readers are level with Japan.

The full title is The World's Finest Assassin Gets Reincarnated in Another World as an Aristocrat (Sekai Saikō no Ansatsusha, Isekai Kizoku ni Tensei suru, 世界最高の暗殺者、異世界貴族に転生する), written by Rui Tsukiyo and illustrated by Reia.

World's Finest Assassin season 2 timeline: from "2027" to January

Season 1 ended on December 22, 2021, and the sequel was announced on September 24, 2023, during Kadokawa's Sneaker Bunko 35th Anniversary Festa livestream. The year came two and a half years after that, and the month came last.

Several things still haven't been announced. The official site's ON AIR page still shows season 1's 2021 broadcast list, starting with AT-X on October 6, 2021. MyAnimeList has season 2's episodes and broadcast slot as "Unknown." The KPF stage on November 28 is the last event on the official news list we read.

KADOKAWAanime posted the main trailer on September 4. It runs 77 seconds and had 1,154,882 views when we checked on November 3. Seven seconds in, it puts one line of text on screen, 勇者を暗殺してください: "please assassinate the Hero."

Season 1 ended on the last page of volume 1

Episode 12 is the end of the first book. In Wikipedia's episode summary, Lugh kills Setanta MacNess, the warrior carrying the spear Gae Bolg, by firing a tungsten projectile into the atmosphere and stalling until it comes down on him. Afterwards the Tuatha Dé house adopts Dia as Lugh's "younger sister." Then word arrives that the Hero, Epona Rhiannon, has appeared.

Kadokawa's blurb for the Japanese volume 2 starts at exactly that point: Lugh has fought off a man with off-the-charts magic power, and news of the Hero's birth reaches him. So twelve episodes covered one book, 312 pages in the English edition. The animenextseason.com explainer says the same thing ("Season 1 adapted only Volume 1"); the blurb is the evidence it doesn't show.

One thing makes the order look stranger than it is. Episode 1 opens out of sequence, with Lugh, Dia, Tarte and Maha already working a slave-auction job together, which Crunchyroll's synopsis for "Quantum of Trust" describes. The childhood story starts in episode 2.

That pace is the anime's appeal and its cost: twelve episodes for one 312-page book. Season 2's length isn't known, so nobody outside the production can tell you whether it reaches volume 3.

Epona and Neusch, the two new voices

Both new characters belong to the academy, which tells you where season 2 opens. The official site announced them on September 4.

Frame from the season 2 main trailer: Epona, a blond student with red eyes in a navy uniform and red tie, in a tiled courtyard, with the caption エポナ・リアンノン CV:上坂すみれ Screenshot: KADOKAWAanime, season 2 main PV (0:27), YouTube

Epona, voiced by Sumire Uesaka, is the Hero. The official profile calls Epona the eldest son of Baron Rhiannon's house, with enormous strength and magic, 30 S- and A-rank skills and a body that's close to unkillable. Only the Hero can kill demons and the Demon Lord. Epona is also Lugh's assassination target, which is the whole tension of the arc.

Neusch, voiced by Yūsuke Tonozaki (外崎友亮), entered the academy's S class in first place, tied with Lugh. He's heir to Duke Gephis's house, one of the four ducal families, and he wants Lugh and Tarte working for him one day. Expect to see his name spelled three ways: Anime Corner writes Neusch, Wikipedia writes Neusche, and the official site's own character URL ends in /naoise/.

The returning leads keep their voices: Kenji Akabane as Lugh, Reina Ueda as Dia, Yūki Takada as Tarte and Shino Shimoji as Maha. So does most of the staff: director Masafumi Tamura, Katsuhiko Takayama on series composition and scripts, Eri Nagata on character design and Kenichi Kuroda on music. The studio changes slightly. Season 1 was split between Silver Link and Studio Palette, which animated the even-numbered episodes; season 2 is Silver Link alone.

Not everyone on MyAnimeList's "First PV and winter 2027" thread was sold on the setting. On September 4, user IKKIsama replied "He goes to school..." and said they wouldn't watch. A day later mr_simp2000 wrote "YEEEEAAAHHHH! The peak is back." On September 12 MewsicMagic landed in between: "I have very conflicting feelings on this, but at least that poster artwork looks outstanding." If a school arc is a dealbreaker for you, know that volume 2 is built around one.

Will Crunchyroll stream World's Finest Assassin season 2?

Probably, but Crunchyroll hasn't said so in anything we could find. Season 1 is on Crunchyroll, all 12 episodes, with Japanese and English audio plus German, Latin American Spanish, French, Brazilian Portuguese and Russian; in some regions the page also lists Thai. The English dub premiered on November 24, 2021.

Screen Rant wrote after the September trailer that "Crunchyroll has already confirmed it will stream the new season," but the link in that sentence goes to Screen Rant's own March 24, 2026 story on Crunchyroll's spring lineup, written a month before season 2 even had a year. On November 3, Crunchyroll's series page still listed season 1 only, and MyAnimeList listed no licensor for season 2. Treat Crunchyroll as the likely home, not a confirmed one, until Crunchyroll's own winter 2027 lineup names it.

The numbers say people are waiting. These are what we read on November 3, 2026:

PageWhat it showed
Crunchyroll, season 14.7 average from 123.1k ratings
MyAnimeList, season 1Score 7.30, 656,801 members
MyAnimeList, season 2No score yet, 97,640 members

Crunchyroll's content advisory for season 1 lists violence, nudity, sexual violence and profanity. Keep that in mind before the next section.

Eight volumes in English, and which one to open first

The story began as a web novel on Shōsetsuka ni Narō before Kadokawa picked it up for its Sneaker Bunko line, the usual route from free web serial to edited light novel that our web novel vs light novel guide walks through. Yen Press publishes the English edition under its Yen On imprint, translated by Luke Hutton. All eight English volumes are out; the eighth caught up with Japan on February 10, 2026.

Volumes 1 to 6 are $15.00 each on Yen Press's site, volumes 7 and 8 are $16.00. Yen Press rates the series 18+ M (Mature), stricter than the anime, which MyAnimeList rates PG-13. There's also a manga by Hamao Sumeragi, nine volumes in Japan, if you'd rather see the academy before January.

The premise is a plain rebirth story, an old assassin reborn with his memories into a noble family, so if you're sorting isekai terms, it sits on the reincarnation side of our transmigration vs reincarnation guide.

What we'd read before January

We haven't read these novels. What we say about their plots comes from Yen Press's and Kadokawa's blurbs and Wikipedia's episode summaries.

Volume 2 is the buy. It's $15.00 and 280 pages, and it's the book that turns episode 12's last scene into a story: the academy, Neusch, and Epona as a person instead of a name. Read volume 3 too if you want the demon attack on the academy, where Kadokawa's blurb puts Lugh and Epona on the same side. We'd stop there. Season 2's length is unknown, and reading five more volumes past that point means going into January already knowing where the show is headed.

Skip the books if the 18+ rating or the school setting puts you off. Season 2 opens on the same academy story in January, with the same director, and season 1 is on Crunchyroll to rewatch until then.

Checked: November 3, 2026. We opened the official anime site (news list, the April 23, September 4, September 28 and October 2 posts, the ON AIR and MOVIE pages), KADOKAWAanime's main trailer and its description, Wikipedia's series article, MyAnimeList's season 1 and season 2 pages and the "First PV and winter 2027" thread, Crunchyroll's series page, Yen Press's pages for volumes 1 to 8 and Kadokawa's pages for the Japanese volumes 1 to 8, plus Anime Corner, Screen Rant and animenextseason. Anime News Network's coverage was not read.
