Tales of Demons and Gods Season 10: Show Ends, Novel Stalls

Tales of Demons and Gods season 10 is the donghua's last: Tencent Video has dated the grand finale for January 23, 2027. The novel it adapts has no finale to match. Mad Snail's book stopped at chapter 507 in September 2024, and Wuxiaworld lists it on hiatus.

Where Tales of Demons and Gods Season 10 Ends

The donghua ends this season, and Tencent has dated the finale. Its series page reads "全488集 · 会员每周六10:00更新，10月17日10点-2027年1月23日10点大结局点映礼": the series total, members updated Saturdays at 10:00, and a grand-finale early screening running from October 17 to January 23, 2027.

On October 24, 2026, members could play up to episode 463. Every episode from 464 to the finale carried the 点映礼 (early screening) tag instead of VIP, and it still did when we checked again on October 29, so viewers with that early-screening access can already see the ending. As of October 24, members had 25 episodes still to come, two each Saturday to January 23; TVmaze and Bangumi list the first two of them, 464 and 465, for October 31. TVmaze's schedule shows the rhythm since the July 18 premiere: three episodes on day one, two every Saturday after, at 10:00.

The sources don't agree on the count. MyAnimeList lists 56 episodes for the season, which matches Tencent's total. Baidu Baike still lists 52 (433 to 484), at eight minutes each. We go with Tencent's own page.

Baike also credits Mad Snail (发飙的蜗牛) as a writer on the season, alongside 暗魔师 and 於添, so the novel's author has a hand in the season that ends the show.

Where Season 10 Starts in the Novel

Tencent publishes no chapter map, and we didn't find one on Baidu Baike, MyAnimeList, Bangumi or TVmaze either. Our reading comes from where Season 9 stops. Its synopsis on Douban, which Baidu Baike carries word for word, ends with Nie Li going to the Heavenly Note Sect to bring back Ye Ziyun and Xiao Ning'er, opening the seal on the Tiny World and saving Glory City (打开小玲珑世界封印，救光辉之城于倒悬). In the book that's chapters 476 to 486: chapter 476, "Returning to the Tiny World," opens with Ye Ziyun at the Heavenly Note Sect passing on Nie Li's message; chapter 485, "City Defense," has Glory City holding out against a demon-beast siege; and chapter 486, "Return," has Ye Mo spotting "several familiar figures," his granddaughter Ye Ziyun among them, as the beasts around the city are wiped out.

So Season 10 most likely opens around chapter 487. That fits Tencent's own pitch. Its synopsis, quoted on MyAnimeList, says "Nie Li travels to the Demon God Sect, makes new friends, embarks on a new journey, and vows to overthrow the Holy Emperor," and in chapter 488's free teaser Nie Li is already questioning a doorkeeper: "What position do you have in the Demon God's Sect?" An earlier version of this page put the start near chapter 449, which is titled after the sect; Season 9's synopsis rules that out.

Another long xuanhuan donghua, but one where the book is finished.

How Far the Novel Goes

From there to the end is about 21 chapters, and then the book stops. Chapter 503, "Fire Spiritual Hall," starts with Nie Li packing away the Black Infernal Tower that "had stood tall on the eighth layer of the Nine-Layered Deathlands." Chapter 507, "Barrier Shattered," is the last one. Its teaser is the middle of a fight: Hierarch Blacknether's palm is about to grab Nie Li when the Origin Fire Trapping Array goes off. Season 10 has 56 episodes for those 21 or so chapters, so by our count it either moves slowly or keeps going past chapter 507; Tencent hasn't said which.

Fan-made recap clips posted on Tencent Video between October 17 and 20 already ask questions about the Nine-Layered Deathlands (九重死地) and the Fire Spiritual Hall (火灵殿). The novel only reaches the Fire Spiritual Hall in chapter 503, four chapters from its end, which fits our reading that Season 10 is adapting the book's last arc.

Qidian, where the Chinese original runs, still calls the book 连载 (serializing). The page shows the last chapter, 结界破开, posted September 30, 2024, and nothing since. Wuxiaworld's Details panel says "Status: Haitus" (its spelling) at "1 chapter/month." Readers who reached that chapter in English took it the way you'd expect. "Noooo not again," wrote GoldMikeMan in the comments; DarkGrymr signed off with "See you all in ten years."

What Viewers Say About Season 10

The r/Donghua viewers we read complain about the pace and the animation. In a thread asking why nobody was talking about the new season, u/KnightKal wrote, after the first three episodes, that the "new season is rushing the plot tho, seems they want to get to the series finale in a rush." u/Scotsmania put it this way: "The new season animation is like stepping back in time to 5 minute donghuas 5 years ago."

Under the season's poster thread, u/Seraphine_KDA said Mad Snail "stoped the novel" because he is "in charge of the manhua and donghua adaptations story and just will continue the story on those formats instead." That's one viewer's reading. The Baike writing credit backs part of it, and nothing we found says the novel will resume.

Where to Watch the Tales of Demons and Gods Donghua in English

Officially, in English, you can get to episode 432 and no further. Tencent's YouTube channel, Tencent Video-ANIMATION, calls the show Demon Gods and has a public EP01-380 compilation, 32 hours long, uploaded November 9, 2024. The newest single episode we found there was EP380. WeTV's page said "To EP 432" and "All 488 EPs" when we opened it on October 24, so none of Season 10 was there for us. Tencent Video's own player told us the show isn't licensed in our region.

Our Take

Watch Tales of Demons and Gods Season 10 if you've followed the show this far and want an ending: the show is the only version with a dated one. Read the book's last 21 or so chapters first if you'd rather have the arc in more detail; two free chapters every 23 hours on Wuxiaworld gets you through them in about ten days. Just don't wait on the book for the finish. It has had no new chapter since September 2024, and its last chapter opens in the middle of a fight. If you're starting from zero, pick a finished xuanhuan from our best xuanhuan novels list instead.

How We Checked This

On October 24, 2026 we opened Tencent Video's 妖神记 series page and read the labels on episodes 421 to the finale, plus Tencent's search page for the season. We opened Qidian's book page and its full table of contents, and Wuxiaworld's series page. We also read the free teasers of chapters 449, 503 and 507 (logged out; Wuxiaworld's URLs run one number ahead from chapter 503). Then we checked Baidu Baike's Season 10 entry, MyAnimeList, TVmaze's episode list, WeTV's page and the Tencent Video-ANIMATION channel uploads, plus two r/Donghua threads. On October 29 we rechecked the Tencent episode labels, read Baidu Baike's and Douban's Season 9 synopsis, Bangumi's Season 9 and 10 entries, and the free teasers of chapters 476, 485, 486 and 488. We haven't watched Season 10 or its finale. What it covers comes from Tencent's synopsis, the Season 9 synopsis, the episode tags and the viewers quoted above.
