Beastmaster of the Ages Review: A Rude Chick Carries It
The revenge plot is the usual one. The talking chick is the reason to read.
out of 10
Verdict: Read the 50 free chapters if a loud, crude pet sidekick sounds fun; skip it if you need the plot to surprise you, because the first five chapters never do.

Beastmaster of the Ages Review: Chapters 1 to 5
In this world everyone is born with a lifebound beast, and beast and master cultivate together. Chapter 1 opens on Li Tianming's anniversary with his girlfriend, Mu Qingqing. She takes off her dress, then Lin Xiaoting, an heir of the powerful Lightning Manor, crashes through the roof and accuses Li Tianming of trying to "drug and assault Qingqing". It's a setup. They kill his lifebound beast, a Four-Winged Goldroc named Midas, by plucking its feathers one by one, to take the Saintbeast War-Soul it had absorbed. Mu Qingqing leaves him with a line about how he should "take it as a sacrifice you've made in the name of love for me".
Three years later, back home in Flamehaven, the secret comes out: alongside Midas, his lifebound space has always held "another ten mysterious eggs". One hatches.

What comes out in chapter 2 is "a particularly yellow and tender" chick whose first words are "Don't look down on me, you nugget! I'm gonna beat your ass!" A vision shows what it really is: a phoenix the size of a starfield, eating stars "like the phoenix was just slurping some noodles". It calls itself the Aeternal Infernal Phoenix, one of the Primordial Chaos Beasts, and admits it has no idea what that means. By morning the two of them have reached the third level of the Beast Vein stage.
Chapters 3 to 5 are the hometown humiliation. On his mother's birthday, his father's third wife and his half-sister Li Xuejiao deliver a divorce letter that evicts mother and son. Li Xuejiao, fifth level at fifteen, attacks; Li Tianming takes her fire palm on the chest without a mark, then sends her up the parasol tree twice. Chapter 5 sets the next goal: his father will marry a woman from the Lightning Manor in ten days, the same day as the academy selection Li Tianming needs to win to get his mother treated.
The Chick Does the Heavy Lifting
Everything around the chick is familiar. A girlfriend sells him out to a richer man, a father throws him out, a half-sister laughs that a comeback will be "the day pigs climb trees". If you've read Battle Through the Heavens or Against the Gods, you can predict each scene. Wei Jing, the mother, is the one family member we'd call more than a type: she tells him to take his father's parting money anyway, because "a man must know flexibility".
The chick is the reason to keep going. It wakes up complaining it was "having fun with my three thousand haremettes", hits on the half-sister's Flaming Hawk with "Do you want to have my babies?", and in chapter 5 pins the hawk down, then discovers it's male and screams "IT'S MALE! ABORT MISSION!" It's crude, and it works because Li Tianming plays the straight man. If that scene made you wince rather than laugh, this isn't your book.
What Readers Say

Screenshot: reader reviews on the Wuxiaworld listing, October 13, 2026
The listing score is 63 from 158 reviews. ReapingHunter, writing after five chapters, saw what we saw: "your typical generic intro", then "a bird who's got a personality of lord fifth. I'm sold right there." Aguinaldo1998 read further and didn't recommend it: "Everything is just gonna be rinsed and repeated", ending with "I read 450ch and would recommend anyone to spend your time elsewhere."
The most useful comment on Reddit comes from Ryogawa, who says they translate the novel. In a post on side characters, they write that once Tianming reaches higher realms, his friends from earlier arcs "cease to have much relevance and are basically enjoying retirement life in the Sun that Tianming rules."
- wesleyy001, replying: "I find it realistic. Most of the people I considered friends when I was younger. I no longer keep in touch with."
- LordOfReading, in a 2020 thread asking where to read past chapter 171: "Wait a day the translator releases 2 a day."
In swizzlad's 2023 tier list on r/noveltranslations, Beastmaster of the Ages sits in C, next to Desolate Era, and a tier above Against the Gods and Star Odyssey.

After that, the timer gives 2 free chapters every 23 hours. Our arithmetic: the remaining 4,580 chapters take 2,290 unlocks, or 52,670 hours, which is about 2,195 days, roughly six years. Our Wuxiaworld paywall guide covers the paid routes.
Beastmaster of the Ages Review Verdict: 6/10
We'd read the 50 free chapters if you want a loud pet sidekick and don't mind the jokes being about sex. That's enough to see whether the other eggs hatch into something as fun. We'd skip it if you need a plot that surprises you: five chapters in, every turn was one we saw coming. If you're new to the genre, what xuanhuan means and our best xuanhuan in English list are better places to start.
