Swallowed Star Donghua: Season 5, Movies and Where to Read

The Swallowed Star donghua has 13 episodes left after episode 247, which Tencent released on October 27, and the story is now at the human race's war with the demons. If you're caught up and tired of waiting for Tuesdays, open I Eat Tomatoes' novel at chapter 1260, "Humans," on Webnovel. The book is finished at 1,487 chapters, and the show won't reach its ending through episodes alone: Tencent has put the final arc in a movie planned for 2027.

Our Swallowed Star review judges whether the novel is worth starting. This page is for viewers of the show: what "season 5" means, where the two released movies go, which chapter the newest episodes reach, and where to watch it officially. We haven't watched the episodes. The matches below come from official episode data, chapter teasers we read on Webnovel, and readers who know both versions.

What "Swallowed Star Season 5" Means

Search for the show and you'll see "season 5 episode 34" next to "episode 242." They're the same episode. Tencent numbers the run straight through, first episode to last. The fan wiki on Fandom splits it into five seasons, and its Season 5 is episodes 209 to 260, 52 in all. Add 208 to any season 5 number and you have Tencent's.

To make it worse, Baidu Baike counts that same run as the seventh season, premiering on February 3, 2026, the day episode 209 aired.

Swallowed Star Donghua Watch Order

The two movies out so far go between episodes, and viewers place them by story, not release date:

1. Episodes 1 to 130.
2. Blood Luo Continent (血洛大陆, 2024). u/SimpleMedium268 put it "between ep 130 and 131 iirc."
3. Episodes 131 to 219.
4. Decisive Battle at Primal Star (决战原始星). Two viewers in the same thread answered "between ep 219 and 220."
5. Episodes 220 to 260.
6. Sector Beast Crisis (界兽危机), planned for 2027. More on that below.

The English movie titles are our translations. The second movie trips people up because it came out after the episode it precedes: Tencent Video released it on May 1, 2026, running 1 hour 34 minutes, ten days after episode 220 aired. Baidu Baike's summary has Luo Feng training on Primal Star, hunted by alien races, turning the tables on them and defending humanity's dignity.

Which Novel Chapter the Swallowed Star Donghua Reaches

Tencent doesn't publish a chapter map, but viewers have left three markers:

• In September, u/Bluesero wrote that "the wiki says that Episode 241 of the Donghua is currently around Chapter 1248 of the novel."
• A reader who had just caught up, u/RicciRox, put it this way: "The equivalent novel chapter of episode 244 is roughly #1259."
• Episode 244, on October 6, was the Giant Axe showdown. A teaser line from Weibo, shared on r/Donghua two days before, reads "Three True Gods have joined forces to attack, and Giant Axe faces them all alone!"

Those markers fit the chapter teasers we read. In chapter 1259, "Do Not Come Here," Huge Axe Creator (the same Giant Axe, in Webnovel's translation) and 19 other universe masters meet to plan the human race's "Rise in the Universe Ocean." By chapter 1261 his miniature universe "was starting to crumble and collapse," and chapter 1262 talks about the days "after Huge Axe Creator died."

At that pace, about 11 chapters over three episodes, episode 246 should sit around chapter 1266, "The War is Coming!", and episode 247, out October 27, around chapter 1270. That's where the two demon ancestors order their army in and line up 12 great beings for the fight. Tencent's newest arc trailer is called 烽火边疆篇章预告，族群大战开启倒计时！, "Beacon Fire on the Frontier: the countdown to the war of the races begins."

Start at chapter 1260. You'll probably reread a bit of what the last two episodes showed, but you won't skip anything. The war follows quickly: "Fight Dream Demon Ancestor" at 1268, "Blood Shadow Blade, Out!" at 1271, and "Loss of the Demon Race" at 1274, by which point the demons have "lost three universe masters."

What the Last 14 Episodes Can't Cover

TVmaze lists episode 247 for October 27. At one a week with no breaks, episode 260 lands on January 26, 2027. That date is our arithmetic, not an announcement.

Those episodes also have a lot of book to get through. At the pace readers have tracked, 13 more episodes take the show to somewhere around chapter 1320. Baidu Baike says Sector Beast Crisis was announced at Tencent's 2026 animation showcase and is planned for release in mainland China in 2027. Its story has Luo Feng, guided by Morosa (摩罗撒), going into the sector beasts' nest, fighting the sector beast Beidi and ending the sector beast catastrophe. In the novel that story starts around chapter 1401, titled "Sector Beast," and in the final chapter Morosa is still standing beside Luo Feng.

That leaves roughly 80 chapters, from about 1320 to 1400, with no announced home. Maybe the last episodes speed up, maybe a lot gets cut. Tencent hasn't said, and viewers are guessing too. u/KnightKal wrote that "They may cut some chapters from the donghua and put on movies again."

The story itself continues in a sequel novel, Swallowed Star 2: Land of Origin (吞噬星空2起源大陆).

How the Swallowed Star Donghua and the Novel Differ

Readers in an October r/Donghua thread mostly called it faithful but fast. u/keineAhnung33 wrote that "It's a faithful adaptation. Most of the difference are minor stuff. Novel gives more detail than the donghua," and added that "The pacing of the donghua is too fast."

u/Fodder_Fist_Ace listed the changes they'd noticed: "several male characters in the novels are females," and later "the dong hua pacing becomes rushed so alot of things in the novels dont get explained." Not everyone accepts the faithful label. In the same thread u/Sandswaters replied "No it's not," pointing at those gender swaps.

Subtitles are the other complaint. u/Southern_Swing4711, around episode 180, wrote that "the translation subtitles are just about useless." The novel spells out what the show skips, which matters more when the subtitles don't help.

Where to Watch the Swallowed Star Donghua Officially

• WeTV, Tencent's international app, carries the show "To EP 246," one episode behind Tencent's 247. Episodes 1 to 20 are free; from 21 on they're VIP.
• YouTube, on the Tencent Video-ANIMATION channel. Free single-episode uploads run through EP211, posted February 24, 2026. EP212 to EP247 are members-only, and so are the ten-episode compilations from EP211 on. We checked 116 uploads in the official playlist with yt-dlp on October 24 and rechecked it on October 29, when EP247 was up as members-only. The episode 246 trailer is public.
• Crunchyroll in the US: JustWatch listed Crunchyroll, its Amazon channel and WeTV on October 23. We didn't check how far Crunchyroll's episodes go.
• Tencent Video itself: episodes 1 to 26 were marked free for a limited time, the rest VIP, but from our location the player said the content wasn't licensed for our region.

Our Take

If you want to know how it ends, switch to the novel now. Thirteen episodes can't plausibly cover the 228 chapters from Humans to the finale, and the last arc isn't due until a 2027 movie. Keep the show for the fights, the one thing even frustrated viewers in those threads give it credit for, and read for everything between them. New to the series? Episodes 1 to 20 are free on WeTV, which is a fair test; if the setting grabs you, the review covers whether the book is worth the long climb.

How We Checked This

On October 24, 2026 we read the free first part of 12 Swallowed Star chapters on Webnovel, logged out: 1248, 1251, 1259 to 1262, 1264, 1266, 1268, 1271, 1274 and the final chapter, 1487. We matched them against the chapter list we saved from Webnovel on October 22 and against the episode markers above. We opened Tencent Video's page for 吞噬星空 with its episode list and search results, WeTV, JustWatch US, three Baidu Baike entries (the series and two movies), Chinese Wikipedia, TVmaze's episode list and the fan wiki's season table. We checked which official YouTube uploads play without a membership using yt-dlp, and we read six r/Donghua threads. On October 29 we rechecked the episode count on Tencent Video (episode 247 of 260), TVmaze, WeTV and the YouTube playlist. We haven't watched the donghua's episodes; what they cover comes from official titles and trailers and the viewers quoted above.
