Legend of Metempsychosis Gets a Seven Seas English License

Seven Seas used its Anime Expo 2026 panel to license Legend of Metempsychosis, the next novel in Fei Tian Ye Xiang's Exorcism universe, and to open a new Seven Seas Baihe label with three girls' love novels. For danmei readers, that means one more book from an author Seven Seas already publishes a lot of, and a 2027 date. For baihe readers, it is the first real shelf from Seven Seas.

What Seven Seas announced

The publisher posted the list on July 4, 2026: fifteen new licenses, four of them Chinese novels. The four, with today's dates from the Seven Seas series pages:

Update (October 23, 2026): Seven Seas moved Miss Forensics Vol. 1 from July 6 to September 14, 2027 and Matrilocal Marriage Vol. 1 from August 24 to October 12, 2027 on their series pages. The table now shows the new dates.

Penguin Random House, which distributes Seven Seas' print books, also lists Legend of Metempsychosis Volume 1 for June 15, 2027, as a 400-page paperback. Only one volume is listed so far, so the length of the English run is still open.

Legend of Metempsychosis: the book itself

Legend of Metempsychosis is Qingping Menghua Lu in Chinese. Seven Seas' synopsis puts it in the last peaceful days of the Northern Song dynasty: Xiang Xian, deputy chief of the Song Department of Exorcism, is hunting for a box containing Heaven's Will and keeps crossing blades with the stern exorcist Xiao Kun. A prophecy of coming calamity forces them to work together, find the heart lamp and revive the department.

It is a finished and recent web novel. On JJWXC it ran from June 11 to September 23, 2025, across 110 chapters, and its completion rating sits at 9.9 from 747 raters. One five-star reader there summed up the pair as "斗嘴萌，打架萌" (cute when they bicker, cute when they fight).

Seven Seas sells it as coming from the universe of Legend of Exorcism and Dinghai Fusheng Records, both already in its catalog. DanmeiNews, which covered the panel the next day, places it third in the universe's timeline, after those two, and reads the license as a sign Seven Seas might take the last two books in the universe if this one sells. That is DanmeiNews' guess, not a Seven Seas statement.

The baihe half of the panel

The three baihe novels are the newer story. Seven Seas calls Miss Forensics "highly requested," and DanmeiNews says fans had long asked for it under the publisher's social posts. It is a forensic-doctor-and-detective thriller that already has a manhua adaptation readable in English. Qing Jun Mo Xiao's two novels, My Wandering Spirit Lady (a woman wakes in hospital next to a ghost she seems to remember) and Matrilocal Marriage (a heartbroken time traveler lands in an unrecorded dynasty), would be her first English releases. DanmeiNews notes that Monogatari Novels' attempt to publish two of her other books, Female General and Eldest Princess and Clear and Muddy Loss of Love, ended in cancellation.

How fans took the Legend of Metempsychosis news

The r/DanmeiNovels thread on the announcement split cleanly in two. The top reply was simply about the baihe titles, "(about time) !!!". The next was the danmei complaint: "Lowkey disappointed that only one danmei title was licensed." Others wanted the publisher to look past its regulars: u/fubroshii wrote that it "feels like they're not giving other authors a chance," and u/Tyrissatar wondered "if they're even listening to their licensing surveys."

The worry did not last long. Seven Seas licensed three more danmei novels at Anime NYC in August, including priest's Faraway Wanderers; our Seven Seas danmei and baihe license timeline tracks every 2026 announcement and date.

Our take

Legend of Metempsychosis is the safe pick: a finished, highly rated novel from an author whose earlier Exorcism books are already on Seven Seas' list. Preorder it if you are reading Legend of Exorcism; nobody else needs to decide before 2027. The more interesting bet is Seven Seas Baihe. If Miss Forensics sells, girls' love readers finally get a steady line of Chinese novels in English print, not a one-off.
