Seven Seas Licenses Revenged Love, a New Danmei Novel

Revenged Love is coming to English print. Seven Seas has licensed Chai Ji Dan's danmei novel, and the first volume is due next February. If the 2025 drama is how you found it, two things are worth knowing before you preorder: Seven Seas sells it as a comedy and tags it Mature, and the readers who've finished the Chinese original say the book is far wilder, and far less polished, than the show.

What Seven Seas Announced for Revenged Love

Seven Seas posted the license on February 4, 2026, calling the book "this comedy danmei" about a rich heir and a cunning ex-boyfriend. The post promised volume one for February 2027 at $20.99 USA / $27.99 CAN, in large-trim paperback under the Seven Seas Danmei label, with ebooks on digital platforms as well. The series page has since pinned down the days:

Only two volumes are listed so far, and Seven Seas hasn't said how many the full run will take.

Penguin Random House, which distributes Seven Seas' print books, already takes preorders for volume one and agrees on the day. Its listing adds a page count, 460 pages, and a detail fans of the show will recognise: the blurb calls it "The hit series, also known as Counter Attack."

The Setup

Wu Qiqiong gets dumped for a richer man and decides to show his ex exactly what he's worth. He rebrands as Wu Suowei, a promising entrepreneur, and runs straight into Chi Cheng: a spoiled corporate heir who keeps blocking his business and who also happens to be his ex's new boyfriend. So Wu Suowei settles on the pettiest possible revenge, stealing her man, even though he isn't gay. You can guess where that goes.

The original, 逆袭 (nìxí, "counterattack"), first ran in 2013 and lasted 283 chapters plus five extras, according to DanmeiNews' roundup of the license. The same report grouped it with four other new Seven Seas danmei licenses announced together: Golden Assistant, The Sword Named No Way Out, Transform Me, Mark Me and Look Up at Me.

The Drama Came First for Most Readers

DanmeiNews puts it plainly: most people outside China first heard of the series through the live-action adaptation, which it says was "met with wild success by domestic and international audiences alike." According to Wikipedia's page on the show, the 2025 series goes by 逆爱 in Chinese, with Zi Yu as Wu Suowei and Tian Xu Ning as Chi Cheng, and it remakes an earlier adaptation, Falling in Love with a Rival (2015). GagaOOLala's upload calls it a 24-episode BL. It streams with English subtitles on Viki, YouTube and GagaOOLala, and GagaOOLala's trailer is the quickest way to see the tone Seven Seas is selling:

That matters for the book. The novel is a 2013 web serial, and nothing in a trailer tells you how it reads.

One mix-up to clear up before you search for the book: the same trailer's YouTube description says the show is "Adapted from Chai Ji Dan's classic BL novel 'Addicted'". That's a different book. Addicted, the 2016 series also known as Heroin, came from Chai Ji Dan's Are You Addicted? (你丫上瘾了), and Wikipedia notes it was banned before its finale. Seven Seas' series page lists 逆襲 (Ni Xi), and its distributor's listing gives the other English name, Counter Attack. That's the book you're preordering, not Are You Addicted?.

What Readers Say About Revenged Love

A March thread on r/DanmeiNovels titled "Revenged Love is Wild" is a fair sample. u/anonmygoodsir, who read it a while back, summed it up as "The whole thing is completely insane. I loved it." The bluntest warning came from u/smallorbits, aimed at people arriving from the show: "remember: the writing is… bad lol" and "Have wattpad level expectations okay?" And for some, the official edition is exactly the plan: u/tehbggg has it "on my TBR list when the seven seas translation is released."

We'd treat the prose warning as the main risk. Nobody in that thread says the story is dull; they say it's unhinged and rough around the edges, and a translation can smooth the second but shouldn't touch the first.

Our Take

If the drama hooked you, the Seven Seas edition is the version to buy: it's the official one, it comes with ebooks, and two volumes already have dates. Just preorder it for the mess, not for the craft. If you've never seen the show, we'd watch the trailer first. The comedy tag and the Mature label are the honest description of what you're signing up for, and four months is plenty of time to decide.
