My House of Horrors Review: A Scary Serial With a Catch
By chapter 3, a broke haunted-house owner stands in a dark bathroom, eyes shut, chanting his own name for a phone app. That is the whole book in miniature.
out of 10
Verdict: A haunted-house owner, a phone app that hands out real nightmares, and a third chapter that will make you check your bathroom mirror: 8.8/10, as long as you can live with a game system and a lot of jokes later on.

My House of Horrors is a horror serial about a man who runs a failing haunted house and gets a phone app that turns his job into real nightmares. It is scary early, funny later, and built on a game system you have to accept by chapter 2. This review is about whether it's worth your time; if you've already decided and want where to read it and how the catalog is laid out, our My House of Horrors reading guide covers that.

My House of Horrors Review: What the First Three Chapters Do
Chapter 1 sets up the money problem. Chen Ge's parents vanished half a year ago, the haunted house is losing customers, and his last two staff have resigned. His parents left a black phone behind, and it finally opens on a single app shaped like a haunted house.
Chapter 2 is where the book shows its hand. The app looks like an ordinary management game, but its numbers match his real haunted house. It offers three daily missions, and the warning underneath is the series in one line: the harder the mission, the more dangerous it gets. Chen Ge takes the safe one first and spends the evening fixing mannequins with a flashlight under his arm. The reward is a cursed piece of music called Black Friday, and one listen leaves his back "drenched in cold sweat." That is when he knows the game is real.

Chapter 3 is the reason to keep going. He can't afford the easy mission and can't hire for the normal one, so he takes the Nightmare Mission, a game called "Another You in the Mirror." The rules: enter the bathroom alone at 2:04 am, turn off the lights, put a candle between you and the mirror, close your eyes, chant your name, and do not open them for half an hour. Chen Ge treats it like research. He reads ghost stories about the game online, picks the first-floor toilet so he can jump out the window if things go wrong, and props his phone by the cistern to film it in case it makes a good new attraction. Then he stands there counting his own name in three-second gaps. Ten minutes in, something happens, and the chapter ends.

What works is the mix of fear and practicality. Chen Ge is scared, but he is also a haunted-house operator taking notes. The book even says it out loud: "Real terror actually doesn't need expensive set-ups." Three chapters in, the scares come from a dark room and a rule you must not break, not from monsters.
The Catch: A Game System, Then a Lot of Comedy
The catch is in the frame. From chapter 2, the haunted house runs on missions, ratings and rewards. If system novels put you off, this one will not change your mind, because the app drives almost every early decision. Lonelytree, who wrote one of the top reviews on the Webnovel page, admits the book uses "well-worn trope like the system" even while recommending it.
The second catch is the tone. People who finished it describe something lighter than chapter 3 suggests. On r/noveltranslations, u/friedfroglegs, who has re-read it, calls it "a really good blend of horror and comedy." Lonelytree says it is "more of a cross-over between horror and mystery." Millman97's review on the same page promises both: "the novel can be really funny at times, and there are genuinely scary moments (especially if you're alone at night 😰)." Note who is talking, though: those two are the team credited on the book.
The third is pace. If you want a hero who levels up fast, one reader in the same Reddit thread warns that "mc isn't op till last arc." Others clearly enjoy the long middle: u/Conscious_Object5624 singles out two later arcs with "Liwan Town and the blind building are too crazy."
Who Should Read It
Read it if you like horror where the lead has a job to do, you enjoy creepypasta-style rituals played straight, and a system frame doesn't bother you. It also suits readers who want to finish what they start, since the English run is complete.
Skip it if you need unbroken dread for the whole run, or if "phone app with daily missions" already made you wince. A slow, reactive-then-scheming lead in a darker world is what Lord of Mysteries does; a ruthless lead and no jokes at all is Reverend Insanity.

Where to Read It
Webnovel is the official English home; chapter 1 opens free without an account, and we read the first three chapters there. The book page credits Millman97 as translator and Lonelytree and Daoist6fubtiW as editors. The reviews on that page tell it the other way: Lonelytree calls himself "this translator" and Millman97 labels his own post an "Editor review." Either way, it is the same two-person team, and readers on Reddit thank Lonelytree for the translation.
My House of Horrors Review: Our Take
Try the first three chapters tonight, ideally late. If the mirror scene grips you, the rest of the book will too, even as it gets funnier. If the phone app already feels silly by chapter 2, stop there: it is the engine of the whole story and it does not go away.
