Star Odyssey Review: A Cold Hero on a Ruined Earth
A fast, brutal opening with a hero who kills first and explains later, then a very long road that splits the readers who walk it.
out of 10
Verdict: Start it if you want a scheming lead and a setting that keeps getting bigger; skip it if a cold protagonist or a romance that readers call the weakest part will put you off.

Star Odyssey opens like a zombie novel and turns into something else by chapter 4, and that turn is the best reason to read it. We read chapters 1 to 5 on Wuxiaworld on October 13, 2026. Our Star Odyssey review comes out at 7/10: a sharp, ruthless start with a hero who is hiding where he really comes from, held back by a lead so cold that we found him hard to root for.

Star Odyssey Review: Chapters 1 to 5
Chapter 1 drops you into a march of refugees half a year after an apocalypse. Mutant beasts, zombies, and humans who gained strength by eating "energy cores" now call themselves cultivators. Lu Yin is one of the guards, number 103, and he smashes a two-meter hound's skull in the first scene. A blood-soaked newspaper blows past: February 3rd, 2200, the day a Chinese crew landed on Neptune. Lu Yin carries a grudge against Liu Shaoge, "the Sage of Light", who left the left side of his body in constant pain.
He is not a nice man. When a cultivator drags some girls out of the line, Lu Yin cuts his throat. In chapter 2, a woman who keeps leaning on him to learn his secret gets one warning, then "I told you, one more time and you're dead", and he kills her in front of her brother before killing the brother and a dozen men with him. His only comment to himself: "I'm just a guest but here I am, stealing the show."
That line is the first clue. Lu Yin has never eaten an energy core. He uses a movement skill called the Roving Step, "a type of battle skill that originates from the starry sky", and stores loot in a "cosmic ring". In chapter 3 the refugees reach a military camp in Nanjing run by Zhou Shan, "the Executioner", one of the Seven Sages. Lu Yin refuses to enlist, buys a map, and walks south just before dozens of meteors fall. He's waiting at the crash site, and he isn't surprised: "A spacecraft… This is way earlier than I expected."

Chapter 4 is the payoff. A student named Vesta climbs out of the ship, calls the people of Earth "natives", reads Lu Yin's "Actual combat level is 302" off his wristwatch, and offers to take him along as a slave. Lu Yin lets him talk, then kills him with a technique Vesta recognises: "Shockwave Palm? How do you…" The narration finally says it: "Lu Yin did indeed come from the skies beyond". He wanted the crystal in Vesta's finger, a "formcast model" that lets him cultivate properly. Chapter 5 has him talk his way past Zhou Shan and a Snow Maiden named Zhao Yu, accept a captain's post he can't refuse, and press the crystal into his own bleeding finger.
What Works, and What Drags
The plotting is good. Every fight in these chapters is won by patience: he hides his strength, waits for Vesta to get careless, and covers the battle site afterwards. Zhou Shan's people still spot "evidence of a battle being covered up around the pit", so the other side isn't stupid either. If you liked the schemers in Renegade Immortal, Lu Yin is closer to that than to a shouting young master.
The drag is how little the book asks you to like him. He kills two people in two chapters for being annoying. The translation also wobbles: the camp is "Nanjing" in one sentence and "Zhongshan" in the next, and a few typos slip through. None of it stopped us reading, but the first chapter is the weakest of the five.
What Readers Say

Screenshot: reader reviews on the Wuxiaworld listing, October 13, 2026
The listing shows three long reviews, five and six years old. Theertern, who updated at "At 3500 now", calls it "a MUST read" and praises the scale: "oh you think you're on Google maps, well no ,now I show you Google world." Monee Mo starts Recommended and then adds "chapter 60 is just horrible!" Ambrozy, marked Not recommended, read "until ch453" and says the science becomes a plot device and the romance is "borderline pathetic". Ambrozy also concedes "Fights are not too long or too short."
On Reddit, a June 2026 thread asks "Am I the only one disappointed by this novel?"
- ClowArchive, who started the thread: "overall I was having fun until the Shenwu arc."
- jajapax: "The Shenwu arc is rough for a lot of readers."
- night_fapper on the same thread: "one of the rare gems that gets better and better as it progresses".
- Iccyh, in a 2024 thread: "Star Odyssey is always the last thing I read 'cause it's the dessert."
- Mr__Citizen in the same thread: "I loved it. But the author kept it going too long."
That split matches our five chapters: we liked the hook and struggled with Lu Yin.

After that the timer gives 2 free chapters every 23 hours. Our arithmetic: the remaining 4,674 chapters take 2,337 unlocks, which is 53,751 hours, or about 2,240 days. That's more than six years of daily logins. Our Wuxiaworld paywall breakdown covers what paying gets you.
Star Odyssey Review Verdict: 7/10
We'd start it if you want a lead who plans, lies and wins by being two steps ahead, in a setting that will keep growing past Earth. We'd skip it if you need to like the hero, because these five chapters give you little reason to. Readers who went far report a weak romance and a slow Shenwu arc, and others call it a favourite, so the free 50 chapters are a fair test.
