Verdict: Read the 50 free chapters if you liked Reverend Insanity's scheming and can stomach a lead who does terrible things for a better run. Skip it if you want one straight cultivation climb.

Immortality Simulator review, short version: chapters 1 to 5 cover four of Li Fan's lives, the first in a single paragraph, they're very good, and the first thing his rewinds buy is a massacre. Li Fan has a gift he calls Return to Truth. It turns the life he just lived into a simulation and sends him back to the day he arrived in this world. He's already used it once when chapter 1 starts, and by chapter 5 he's on his fourth try at the same fifty years.

Wuxiaworld lists it as Ongoing, by Angry Cuttlefish (愤怒的乌贼), translated by WhySee and licensed from Yuewen, with a score of 86 from 55 reviews on November 2, 2026. The Chinese title is 我的模拟长生路 (Wo De Moni Changsheng Lu), and you'll also see it as My Longevity Simulation or My Simulated Path to Longevity. On October 28 the translator posted "How Immortality Simulator almost didn't make it to Wuxiaworld," and one commenter wrote that "to get a quality translation from the beginning has been a blessing."

One mix-up to clear first: this isn't the Lord of the Mysteries author. That's Cuttlefish That Loves Diving (爱潜水的乌贼). The pen names share a cuttlefish and nothing else, though Wuxiaworld reviewer Ayush joked that it's probably "just Cuttlefish's second account."
Immortality Simulator Review: Four Lives in Five Chapters
Chapter 1 opens at Li Fan's seventieth birthday in Xuanjing, capital of Great Xuan. He arrived in this world as a destitute scholar and spent fifty years climbing to Grand Preceptor, the Emperor's tutor. He had searched the entire realm for immortals and found nothing. Then two of them, Dao Xuanzi and Kou Hong, streak across the sky over Xuanjing, fighting about a stolen core formation method. Kou Hong uses the crowd as a weapon, and the explosion kills Li Fan's wives, concubines and five sons. Of the city, "fewer than one in a hundred" survived. Li Fan survives, deafened, and "all he wanted to do was laugh." When he resets, he makes a promise: "In my next life, I will hunt immortals!"
That's the hook, and the next four chapters keep it. Here's what each life in the opening amounts to, from our reading:
| Life | Chapters | What Li Fan does | How it ends |
|---|---|---|---|
| First | Told in ch. 1 | Fails the imperial exams, quits by thirty, becomes a modestly wealthy merchant | Dies of illness; Return to Truth wakes on his deathbed |
| Second | 1-2 | Rises to Grand Preceptor, searches for immortals and gives up in Anchor Year 48 | Two cultivators level Xuanjing in Anchor Year 50; he resets |
| Third | 3-4 | Takes triple honors, swaps the Prince of Langya for a body double, puts the double on the throne, ambushes both cultivators | Kou Hong dies; Dao Xuanzi's last sword strike shatters the city |
| Fourth | 5 | Poisons the emperor early to save ten years; the throne goes to the wrong prince in Anchor Year 7, and the war lasts until Anchor Year 22 | Still running when ch. 5 ends, with Li Fan heading for the Abyssal Chasm in Anchor Year 35 |
Chapter 2 is the one that sold us. The second life replays as a log, one bracketed line per "Anchor Year," from the exam he passes because he knows the questions in advance, through the Empress Dowager's pregnancy in year 31, to the two immortals in year 50. Fifty years take 33 bracketed lines. Then come the four choices every simulation ends with: keep an item, keep your cultivation, pass the memories to one person, or give it all up to charge faster. He was a mortal with no cultivation, so the first two are worthless, and on the third he decides "human nature was unpredictable."
Return to Truth Has a Battery and a Mental Age Limit
The cheat comes with limits, which is why the plotting holds up. A full charge takes about twenty years and caps at 200%. When he's in mortal danger it spends charge to shield him, which is how he lived through the blast in chapter 1. And his mind ages. The status screen in chapter 2 shows a body of 20 out of a lifespan of 86, and a psychological age of 166 out of a limit of 1,056. Pass the limit and "the erosion of time" crushes the soul. By chapter 5 the reading is 216 out of 1,080, and Li Fan notes the limit rose "only by a few decades" this time.

The translator explains two choices in the chapter 1 notes. Readers had voted for My Longevity Simulation, but the story is told in third person, and the author uses 长生 to mean eternal life rather than a long one, so "Immortality" won. Return to Truth translates 还真 (huan zhen), "return" plus "true." It's the kind of note that tells you someone cared about the book, and it matters here: Wuxiaworld readers ShiftyCake and spook both say they'd tried it before through unofficial translations they called poor, the second one "poorly edited mtl."
Why Two Immortals Fear a City of Mortals
The world rule is the best idea in the opening. Mortals carry Immortal-Mortal Miasma in their blood, and it eats cultivation. In chapter 4 Li Fan's soldiers fire bullets soaked in mortal blood, then shells that burst into red rain. Kou Hong, who had shrugged off the guns as having "power comparable to the early-stage Qi Refinement realm," goes white-haired in seconds and dies. The sky itself announces it: he "practiced the Dao for 205 years" and "fell to Immortal-Mortal Miasma." The world is just as hard on cultivators. Only one person can practice a given technique, which is why Kou Hong ends "a hundred years of brotherhood" over one stolen method.
Then Dao Xuanzi, barely alive, speaks to the hidden mastermind and calls up his Curio, a huge broken iron sword hanging over the city. "This is my sword strike. Behold it well." The city splinters, and Li Fan resets. A mortal killed one immortal, left the other barely alive, and still lost the life, and that's what keeps the reset from feeling cheap. Chapter 5 gives him the lesson he'll need in every life after: "A slight misstep leads to a thousand li of deviation."
What It Costs: Chapter 3, and Chapter 458
The cost shows up early. In chapter 3 Li Fan's men, dressed as refugees, slaughter the Prince of Langya and his whole family so a trained double can take his place. On the prince's wedding night Li Fan "stormed the bridal chamber" and later tells her grandfather, the Grand Secretary, that he "defiled" her. A year later her son is his. The book narrates it in a few flat paragraphs and moves on to the succession plot. Novel Updates lists Mature among its genres and Ruthless Protagonist among its tags, which fits. ShiftyCake put the character well: "careful then reckless, compassionate then callous," with a cheat that's "as much a curse as it is a blessing."
The longer cost comes from the reset loop itself. The most useful negative review on Wuxiaworld is from Daoist_Egodeath, who read to chapter 458 and marked it Not recommended while calling the writing excellent. The complaint is structural: "This novel is effectively a pocket realm simulator." Every reset is a new persona in a new setup, with "characters you are expected to remember from 50+ chapters ago," and by the end the reviewer was "kinda forcing myself through the last 100 chapters." On Novel Updates, Whiply binged to chapter 240 in three days, then hit "far too many subplots" by 250. Not everyone tires of it: Not a Little Dustbin has read "over 900 chapters and it doesn't really get boring or old."
Fifty Free Chapters, Then the Timer
Chapters 1 to 50 open in full without an account; chapter 51 is a teaser. That free run is generous. Chapter 21, "Setting Foot In The Cultivation World," opens with a boat breaking through the Immortal-Severing Grand Array into a range of mountains, so the free run gives you at least a glimpse of the second setting before you pay anything. After 50, Wuxiaworld gives two free chapters every 23 hours. The 666 titled chapters after the free run would take about ten and a half months on the timer alone, and the 50 untitled ones at the end (717 to 766) are advance chapters, all 50 of them for the top sponsor tier.
How far behind the Chinese is that? Novel Updates lists the original as complete at 1,776 chapters, so English is around 40% through if the chapters line up. The translator splits only very long chapters ("3 splits in the first 300"), so the gap is close to that. The story does end: on the translator's October 28 post, one reader asked whether there's a sequel, "because the later part was a cliffhanger."
Immortality Simulator Review: Read It After Reverend Insanity
Read it if Reverend Insanity taught you to enjoy a lead who plans three moves ahead and doesn't flinch. Novel Updates' reader recommendations put Reverend Insanity first, with A Regressor's Tale of Cultivation tied for second. It also suits Lord of the Mysteries readers who want the mystery to come out one layer per life. Don't come for romance: Novel Updates reviewer absenior19, writing at chapter 600, opens with "No Female Lead, No Romance."
Skip it if you came to cultivation for one long climb. Daoist_Egodeath's alternative is A Record of a Mortal's Journey to Immortality, one life and one climb from start to finish. Skip it too if chapter 3 as described above is a dealbreaker, because the book doesn't treat it as one.
Our take: 8 out of 10 for the opening. The battery, the cap and the age limit are all on screen by chapter 2, and the cultivators have a weakness a mortal can actually use. Read to chapter 50. If the third and fourth lives already felt like the same fifty years again, stop there, because Daoist_Egodeath and Whiply say the sprawl only grows: pocket-realm arcs, a long cast, too many subplots.
Notes on This Review
For this Immortality Simulator review, on November 2, 2026 we read chapters 1 to 5 in full on Wuxiaworld without an account. We opened chapter 21 for its title and opening, and opened chapters 50, 51, 52, 53, 55, 60, 75 and 100 only to find where the free run ends. We also went through the series page, its review list, the translator's October 28 post and its comments, the last contents page on Wuxiaworld Lite, and the Novel Updates page. We haven't read past chapter 5, so anything about later arcs comes from the reviewers named above.
