Martial God Asura Review: A Fun Start, Then the Loop

The first five chapters are dumb fun; the 6,788 after them are where readers say the fun turns into a loop.

Verdict: Read the 50 free chapters for the crack-energy opening, then stop unless you want the same arc on repeat; skip it entirely if a Mature tag and a lecherous cast put you off.

6,793 chapters · Ongoing · Wuxiaworld · How we score

Martial God Asura is worth exactly as much of your time as you'd give a bag of chips: grab a handful, enjoy the crunch, and don't pretend it's dinner. We read chapters 1 to 5 on Wuxiaworld on October 13, 2026, and they're fast, loud and a bit ridiculous in a way that's easy to like. The trouble is the other 6,788 chapters. The listing sits at 50 from 625 reviews, and the readers who stuck with it mostly describe the same arc on repeat.

Martial God Asura Review: The First Five Chapters

Chapter 1 opens with nine-coloured lightning falling on the Azure Province and an imperial order to bring back every infant born that night. Then it cuts five years ahead to Chu Feng, 15, an outer court disciple of the Azure Dragon School: the bottom rung, stuck doing the chores during recruitment day. He's adopted, the Chu family treats him as a disgrace, and his cousin Chu Yue (an inner disciple, one year older) slips him her Saint Spirit Grass anyway. A smug relative, Chu Zhen, bets his own yearly grass that Chu Feng can't pass the inner disciple exam. You can see the payoff from orbit.

The twist is that the lightning went into him. That night, at ten, he ran outside, and it's been sitting in his dantian ever since, eating every scrap of spiritual energy he condenses. Chapter 2 is the moment the grass finally fills it: the lightning condenses into a pill, and he jumps two levels on the spot. From there the book doesn't waste a page.

The exam in chapters 3 to 5 is the best stretch. Over ten thousand outer disciples sprint through a needle-trap cave; Chu Feng clears it in one hour, when the previous record was two. An elder named Su Rou, curious about the speedster, presses three release stones at once and accidentally lets out thirty rank 2, nine rank 3 and one rank 4 Fierce Beast. He punches all forty to death, takes the rank 4 skill book and the five Saint Spirit Grasses, and walks off. Two rivals arrive to an empty platform and quietly accept the credit. Then a naked, sobbing disciple wanders in complaining that someone knocked him out and stole his clothes, and Chu Feng smiles at his own undamaged outfit. That gag is the whole appeal in one beat.

What you'll put up with: the translation reads like a fast first pass ("Very soonly", "Let us travel through time a bit"), and the camera spends a lot of time on Su Rou's dress and legs. When she announces a secret prize, someone in the crowd asks if she's "giving her body." That's chapter 3.

What Readers Say Happens Next

Two Wuxiaworld reader reviews of Martial God Asura, seven years old: B4history Not recommended, Boring and repetitive, and Infin Recommended

Screenshot: reader reviews on the Wuxiaworld listing, October 13, 2026

The top review on the listing, from B4history (Not recommended), lays out the loop: "Chu Feng arrives at a new place and somehow offends an arrogant young master." Then a relative shows up, the crowd announces "it's over for Chu Feng now," he wins anyway, a bigger boss arrives, and so on. "Rinse and repeat." LazyDan (Not recommended) quit around an "Immortal Road" arc because "the story just got way too repetitive."

The second review is the one to read before you start. Infin marked it Recommended out of respect for the translators, but says the protagonist "grows to become everything he hates, as well as a rapist," and that the sexual violence is aimed at women who offended Chu Feng. The listing carries a Mature tag. Nothing in chapters 1 to 5 goes there, but you should know before chapter 1 that a long-time reader says it does.

Reddit has the nickname for it. A 2016 farewell to the first translator, flowerbridgetoo, remembers how "everyone was hyped for the 'Martial Crack Asura'" when the early chapters dropped. Seven years later, a December 2023 thread from a reader who'd finished 4,000 chapters turned into a roast.

  • Tinyviel: "i read like 2k ish chapters, and after he ascended heavens above heavens 10th time i gave up"
  • klkevinkl: "You could clearly see the decline in writing and translation quality by that point compared to the early stuff."
  • Light_Nocturne, the defense: "I only binge read it in chunks these days once a year. It's horrible, but I have also read worse over the years."

Light_Nocturne has it right, as far as we can tell from the outside. It's a once-a-year binge, not a series you follow.

How Long This Actually Is

Screenshot: Wuxiaworld novel page for Martial God Asura, October 13, 2026

The listing says 6,793 chapters and Ongoing. (The Details paragraph further down still says "4700+", which is just stale text.) On October 7 it said 6,790, so three chapters landed in six days, on pace with the translator's September 5 notice.

Screenshot: translator notice on Wuxiaworld, October 13, 2026

In that notice starvecleric cut releases to 4 chapters a week because the author "has slowed his updates to fewer than one a day," and adds that they're "on the last arc now, though I think it's going to be a long one." The same post jokes that it "might just reach 20k chapters." Plan accordingly.

Chapters 1 to 50 opened in full without an account when we checked; chapter 51 came up as a locked teaser. After that, the free timer is 2 chapters every 23 hours. Our arithmetic: the remaining 6,743 chapters at that rate is about 3,231 days, close to nine years, before counting new ones. Our guide to whether Wuxiaworld is worth paying for covers the paid side.

Where It Fits

Wikipedia's xianxia article names Martial God Asura alongside Coiling Dragon and I Shall Seal the Heavens as novels that drove the boom in fan translations, so it matters historically even if it hasn't aged well. Coiling Dragon, from the same list, gets the full treatment in our Coiling Dragon review. If the genre labels blur, our xianxia vs xuanhuan guide sorts them out, and best xuanhuan novels in English has stronger picks in the same lane.

Martial God Asura Review Verdict: 5/10

We'd read the free 50 if you want a loud, fast power-up story to switch your brain off with, and the opening's exam-and-beasts run does that job well. We'd skip the long haul. Readers who went further describe the same young-master arc on loop and a translation that got worse, and one widely upvoted review warns about sexual violence by the hero. If a Mature tag plus a leering camera in chapter 3 already bothers you, don't start. If you finish chapter 50 hungry for more, pick a completed series instead of signing up for a decade.

How We Checked This

For this Martial God Asura review we read chapters 1 to 5 of the Wuxiaworld translation on October 13, 2026, tested which chapters open without an account, re-captured the listing and the translator's notice, and read the reader reviews and two Reddit threads in full (12 pages in all, each fact matched to a saved copy).
