Reverend Insanity ending explained, with spoilers: this page names the last published chapter and the final conflict.

There is no ending to explain. The published text stops in chapter 2,334, "Fang Yuan and Giant Sun Fight Star Constellation", in the middle of the last battle. Wikipedia's article on the novel says so directly: "no ending has ever been written." Webnovel still marks the English edition Completed, because every chapter that exists has been translated.

TL;DR: Reverend Insanity stops at chapter 2,334, mid-battle between Fang Yuan, Giant Sun and Star Constellation, with eternal life still unwon. The serial was removed from Chinese platforms in 2019 and never resumed. "Completed" on Webnovel means the translation is finished, not the story.

Reverend Insanity Ending Explained: Where the Text Stops

The last chapter is a fight, not a resolution. Webnovel's catalog shows "Latest Release: Chapter 2334: Fang Yuan and Giant Sun Fight Star Constellation", with a timestamp of 5 years ago. No chapter follows it.

Wikipedia's plot summary describes the setup of that final chapter. Three Venerables stand over the world, and "the novel's final published movement is the convergence of Fang Yuan, Star Constellation Immortal Venerable and Giant Sun Immortal Venerable on Heavenly Court itself." Then: "The text breaks off there, mid-battle, with the eternal life that has driven the protagonist across two lifetimes still unwon."

So the three things readers search for after finishing have the same answer. Who wins the battle: not written. Does Fang Yuan get eternal life: not in the text. What happens to the factions: not written. Anything that claims more is a theory, however confident it sounds.

Reverend Insanity Ending Explained: Why the Story Stops

The story did not run out; it was stopped. According to Wikipedia, the novel was serialized on Qidian "from 2012 until its removal in 2019". It was removed "during a national campaign against online literature", and officials cited content promoting what they described as "unhealthy values of violence, cruelty, and extreme individualism".

The English edition is a separate track. Wikipedia says an official English translation "has been published on Webnovel since 2019 and covers all 2,334 chapters". That is why both labels are true at once: the translation is complete, and the novel is unfinished. "Completed" is platform metadata about chapters, not a promise about the plot.

If the late-game cultivation terms blur together, Reverend Insanity: Gu System Explained covers ranks, apertures and refinement without spoiling the ending.

Where the Ending Sits in the Six Volumes

Wikipedia lists six published volumes, and their lengths explain why the stop feels sudden. The fifth volume, "Demon King Reigns Supreme", runs 945 chapters, the longest of the six. The sixth, "Demon Venerable, Eternal Life", has 368. The book was building toward the payoff named in that last volume title when it ended.

Bar chart of Reverend Insanity chapters per volume: 199, 206, 244, 372, 945 and 368, totalling 2,334 Chart: NovelBrief; source: the volume list in Wikipedia's Reverend Insanity article (checked October 8, 2026).

The six volume lengths (199, 206, 244, 372, 945 and 368) add up to 2,334, the same count Webnovel shows. If you are planning a read, that last volume is roughly a sixth of the book, and it ends without its title being fulfilled.

What Gu Zhen Ren Said About It

The clearest statement from the author that English readers can find is a note translated and posted to r/ReverendInsanity in December 2020 by user dardex, when Gu Zhen Ren started a new book, Infinite Bloodcore. In that translation he writes: "Reverend Insanity being banned was an important trial for me." He adds that he does his best "to finish every book", and then: "It is still banned and forced to be a eunuch. This made me feel severe pain." The thread is a fan translation, so treat the wording as a translator's.

Readers in the thread split. User Gaming_Mod asked, "Will he be continuing Reverend Insanity though." User Slight-Ad999 wrote, "JUST FINISH WHAT YOU HAVE ALREADY STARTED." Another reader replied, less politely, that the book was the author's own work and that it had been banned, which was not his choice.

The author's later career did not return to the book. Wikipedia says his serial Xian Gong Kai Wu "began on 20 April 2024", is "a fantasy of mechanism and puppet craft rather than of gu", and was still running in 2026. It also reached first place in the platform's 2024 ranking of outstanding web fiction, "a result carried by a coordinated vote from readers of the withdrawn novel". That vote says a lot about how the unfinished ending still sits with its readers.

Step-by-Step

1. Decide where you want to stop: Open the Webnovel catalog and note that chapter 2,334 is the last one, so you know the run ends mid-battle before you start the final volume.

2. Read the sixth volume in order: Start it knowing that "Demon Venerable, Eternal Life" is the volume title, not a summary of what happens, because the text stops before that goal is reached.

3. Bookmark by chapter number and title: Save "Chapter 2334: Fang Yuan and Giant Sun Fight Star Constellation" with the date you checked, so a mirror site with different chapter splits does not confuse you.

4. Label every ending claim you find: Mark anything that names a winner or an eternal-life outcome as a theory, since the published text contains neither.

5. Read the author's note if you want closure: Open the r/ReverendInsanity translation of Gu Zhen Ren's 2020 note for his own view of the ban, then decide whether to follow his newer work.

Our Take

This verdict rests on the facts cited above: Webnovel's catalog, Wikipedia's plot summary, removal history and volume list, and the author's translated note. On that evidence, the honest answer is the one most search results avoid: there is no ending, and there is no hidden one. Whether that makes the book worth starting depends on whether 2,334 chapters of Fang Yuan's scheming are worth it without a final payoff. Our Reverend Insanity review is the place to make that call; this page only tells you where the road stops.

How We Checked This

We used 4 sources, all opened on October 8, 2026: the Webnovel book page and its catalog (one source, captured with a browser because Webnovel blocks plain requests), Wikipedia's Reverend Insanity article, and one r/ReverendInsanity thread read through Reddit's RSS feed. Every number, title and quote here has a row in our source table. The author's words come from a fan translation, which we could not check against the Chinese original.
